This project aims to shed light on a little-known and rarely performed repertoire. The composers presented are best known for their contributions to opera. And yet, behind this grand tradition, which has made our country (Italy) one of the leading protagonists through the centuries, there exists a parallel body of chamber music, either original or transcribed for voice and guitar, mostly by musicians of the same era.

Arias, melodies, and songs have enriched the literature for voice and guitar thanks to guitarists such as Ferdinando Carulli, Matteo Carcassi, Mauro Giuliani, and Ferdinando Sor.

A small section is also dedicated to the most virtuosic singers ever heard on the face of the earth: the castrati. These true superstars of the 18th and 19th centuries inspired renowned opera composers, often captivated by their angelic and highly distinctive voices, to create custom-tailored arias and roles. Through anecdotes and storytelling, the program also recounts this inhumane yet widespread practice of castration, which allowed singers to attain extraordinary vocal abilities and thus excel in theatres across Europe.

Works by: Crescentini, Rossini, Cimarosa, Millico, Paisiello, Bellini, Puccini, and Donizetti

🎵 Below, we offer a little preview of the program, recorded in June 2025. Further details about upcoming concerts will follow.
